Description

This Folic Acid supplement is part of the vitamin B complex family, and is an essential for many bodily processes, including red blood cell formation. Supplemental folic acid intake increases maternal folate status.

Low maternal folate status is a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. The beneficial effect is obtained with a supplemental folic acid daily intake of 400μg for at least one month before and up to three months after conception for women of child bearing age.

This folic acid supplement provides 400μg of high quality folic acid in the active, methylated form known as L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). This type of folic acid is found in nature and is also referred to as folate.

Unlike the inactive form of folic acid that is found in mass produced supplements, this type is highly bioavailable to the body, as it does not have to undergo conversion.
